It’s a missed opportunity for businesses that have not upgraded from general area lighting to task lighting to increase productivity and save $$ (dollars).
When, you might ask, is it appropriate the use task lighting?
- If documents are difficult to read because of poor contrast, small type, poor handwriting, inappropriate use of color, etc.
- If room lighting has been reduced to conserve energy/energy efficiency or for some other reason (e.g., to reduce glare on computer displays). This is typical when companies introduce “green initiatives” instead of a full sustainability plan that would have taken lighting and human needs into consideration as part of the holistic planning.
- If older employees need additional light to compensate for changes in their vision that normally occur with age.
- Your employees ask for a desk lamp because of eye strain or other discomfort due to lighting conditions.
Remember, smartly implemented task lighting even within an area with reduced general lighting can enhance the overall work environment as well as save energy dollars both electrical/heat energy and human energy.
Bottom line benefit is healthier, happier workplaces.

Golden Path Alchemy - holistic, handmade, herbal skin care
I met Ashley Beckman of Golden Path Alchemy – www.goldenpathalchemy.com at the Green America Green Festival in San Francisco this past week. Ashley really knows her stuff about how carcinogenic some skin care products are. She is also well versed in the fact that there is little regulation to protect consumers in the skin care market place. Without some standard or regulation the customer is the guinea pig. I even quizzed her about some of the shaving products I have used. After I followed the tips she gave and research she suggested I do, I will never use those products again. Just because it says it’s natural or organic doesn’t make it so. Even though I have yet to try any of Golden Path Alchemy’s products I am encouraged that as a company they are on the right path towards a holistically sustainable skin care line. They have a great story and I expect that there is a niche for them in the wilds of the skin care market.
Golden Path Alchemy is a small company, that focus’s on high quality, small batch production. They are a company that I consider a great example of being able to create a high touch relationship with their customers. A high touch relationship usually results in a loyal base of customers that can help companies grow or sustain them through hard times. I consider this high touch relationship essential in creating a truly sustainable business. They are a company certainly worth watching. If you happen to try any of their products, please let me know what you think of them.

Canvas Dreams the “Greener Web Host” one of Peraska’s Client, Green America Member and the company that encouraged me to join them at the Green America Green Festival in San Francisco is featured in New York Times Bay Area Blog. Whoever says that “going green” doesn’t pay should see this blog article. It’s not only about the exposure. It is about pursuing a conscience way of doing business. It’s about assessing what your business is doing daily FROM a sustainable perspective and integrating the results within business planning and strategy to increase efficiency, marketing muscle, and show relevancy in the “new” Green Economy.
